LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Expand Medicaid, don’t rob it

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Dr. Karen Kinsell

To the Editor:

The federal government will pay for 90% of the cost of expanding Medicaid to all eligible Georgians. Hallelujiah! But we must use that money wisely, guard it from the thieves.

Health care is between you and your doctor. It is not a “public-private partnership.” There is no chair for an insurance agent in the exam room. Has a health insurance company ever helped you?

A competently operated public system is the simplest, most effective and efficient way to provide health care. No one ever turns in their Medicare card. They laminate them like trophies.

This is about your life and your health, not some salesman.

Insurance companies may be good enough for Arkansas, but Georgia has the opportunity to do this right. Use the Medicaid money as efficiently as possible to do the most good. We can all agree on that.

Do we have any Republican politicians bold enough to stand up to the private lobbyists?
