MICHAEL FERGUSON II: Sign of the times: Energy, power, the Western Hemisphere’s next chapter

What is unfolding is not just about the present moment, it is about trajectory.

Many have asked me about my take on the current administration and what some are calling a renewed war machine. I have taken time — intentionally — not to engage in political gotchas or partisan reflex, but to stand in a posture of observation; not reacting to headlines, but reading actions; not chasing narratives, but measuring outcomes.

Because what is unfolding is not just about the present moment, it is about trajectory. And if these policies are fully implemented, their true meaning will not be revealed in news cycles, but in what they shape over the next 20 years.

We are watching events unfold across the globe: Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, even Greenland. And yet the story being told rarely matches the strategy being executed. That disconnect is not accidental. It is a sign of the times.

Iran and the Illusion of Distance
On the surface, the confrontation with Iran feels distant, another chapter in a long history of Middle Eastern tension. But distance, in this moment, is an illusion. Because what happens in the Strait of Hormuz does not stay in the Strait of Hormuz. Oil flows through that narrow passage like blood through an artery. Disrupt it, and the entire global body
reacts: prices surge, economies tighten, alliances shift.

So when pressure is applied there, it is not just about Iran. It is about leverage. This is a sign of the times.

Venezuela and the Quiet Repositioning
While attention is fixed overseas, something quieter — and arguably more consequential — is happening closer to home. Venezuela, once isolated and adversarial, is being repositioned. This is a sign of the times.

Cuba and the Pressure to Open
Cuba now stands at a familiar crossroads, one shaped not just by ideology, but by necessity. This is a sign of the times.

Greenland: The Future Beneath the Ice
And then there is Greenland, sitting atop one of the most valuable resource deposits on Earth. This is a sign of the times.

What we are witnessing now is one of those shifts. This is a sign of the times.
