Syndicated columnist Cal Thomas recently expressed so well my feelings about how Hollywood elite erroneously think they speak for the majority of Americans as to what constitutes American values, hopes and dreams. They do, indeed, live in a “fantasy world” of opulence and self-absorption. Although a few of them have produced some charitable acts of value, none are qualified to set the agenda for the nation.

Fantasy might inhabit our dreams, but not our reality. Those of us who face day-to-day reality believe as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. espoused during his lifetime. We believe that character is more important than gender or skin color; and character is who we are when no one is watching.

I have not been to a movie in years, primarily because of today’s trend filling even good stories with excessive violence, sex and vulgarity. We ordinary Americans, hicks, and “basket of deplorables” have enough negatives in our lives without adding entertainment that drags us down morally or cultivates more bad habits.

I am fortunate in that I lived during Hollywood’s Golden Age, and I remember that producers of that great film “Gone with the Wind” were charged a penalty for allowing Rett Butler to declare his memorable goodbye to Scarlett: “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn!”

How times have changed, and not for the better! During Obama’s eight years of leadership, his attitude and policies alienated allies and made both the United States and Israel less safe. God’s Word promises to bless those who bless Israel. Barack Obama imperiled our nation’s blessings from God.

Donald Trump is not slow to anger or a role model for tolerance. He is not careful in choosing his words, but I believe him to be a solid businessman who sincerely wants to help America rather than himself. Also, the fact that he has a Christian leader such as Mike Pence by his side encourages me.

Republicans did not openly protest or boycott after Obama was elected. However, when Clinton supporters failed to get their way, bigotry and intolerance angrily raised its ugly Democratic heads.
