T. GAMBLE: I’m blaming O.J. for the Kardashians
OPINION: It’s hard to look away from latest trainwreck celebrities
By T. Gamble
I was listening to the radio the other day when the commentator mentioned it was almost 23 years since the O.J. Simpson trial. Twenty-three years have now passed since that debacle occurred.
The person on the radio then mentioned something even more remarkable by joking the trial was responsible for the whole Kardashian mania. This mania has engulfed everyone with an IQ less than 72, which I’m beginning to believe is most of the people in the USA.
Yes, Robert Kardashian played a part in defending O.J. Simpson, what part I’m not quite sure. Maybe he paid off the jury ‘cause something sure happened there. But, I’m not worried about whether O.J. avoided a long prison sentence for murder.
No, I think O.J. should be serving time for bringing us the Kardashians. Never in the history of man has a group of people reached such fame with so little talent. In fact, I’m willing to bet if you asked 100 people on the streets of New York, “What is the talent that makes Kim Kardashian famous?” 98 would be dumbstruck. I mean what is it?
I get she is pretty good at getting naked a lot, but hey, so was the 2-year-old Hurricane Boy, and he’s not famous. She can’t sing. She can’t act. She does have an impressive rear end, but under that criteria elephants should be worshipped. She has a bunch of sisters who are pretty good looking, I suppose, but nothing that I would consider awe-inspiring.
What is the fascination? Is it like watching a train wreck? We all know this is bad but can’t turn away?
I mean, here I am writing about them, and I don’t even watch the shows or read about them in the magazines … well, not much anyway. Maybe it is a sort of reverse psychology. We watch the wealthy Kardashians spend huge sums of money, and party, and live life up, all the while creating one disaster after another. Then, we can say, “See, I told you getting rich and famous and travelling all over the world will not make you happy.”
I guess it started with Paris Hilton. She managed to stay famous for 20 years without one shred of talent that I ever saw. She seems to have fizzled out but who knows, there could be another “leaked” porn tape or something.
Come to think of it, I think a “leaked” tape started Kim’s career. Maybe that is the key, leak a porn tape and off you go. I guess the old adage about not selling your soul to get rich or famous is now out the window.
All I know is I’m blaming O.J.
