Take safety matters in your own hands
By Walt Specht
You are staying in a nice hotel or motel. You feel secure. Those warning signs about the establishment not being responsible for theft, loss or damage to your car don’t worry you as you assume they are legal disclaimers. A necessary part of our litigious society.
You have free WiFi and a deadbolt, plus a security flip lock on your door. What could go wrong?
Well, an enterprising individual could use that free WiFi to look up how to defeat that lock on your door. Plus how to slip that flip lock. Be inside your room in short order. Isn’t the internet wonderful?
So next time you stay in any hotel, have a door wedge to secure your door. Use the security box at the desk for your valuables. Don’t leave anything visible in your vehicle that might tempt someone to bust out your window. If you’re smart, have a well hidden lock box in your vehicle.
Believe me, there are folks out there making a living off theft. Do what you can to make sure you don’t become a victim. Don’t always count on others to look out for your safety. It is only in your hands.
