Pelham’s Destiny Thomas named Class A South co-player of the year

ALBANY — A handful of Albany-area players have been named to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-State basketball teams.

Lee County’s Tyler McConnell and TJ Harris, who helped lead the Trojans to the Region 1-AAAAAA title, were named to the Class AAAAAA South team.

Meanwhile, Westover’s Kris Gardner and Jordan Brown were named to the Class AAAA South team after helping the Patriots make the second round of the state tournament.

In Class A, Calhoun County’s Rashun Williams was named the Class A South Player of the Year, while teammate Roney Moore also made the squad.

The Cougars lost in the finals of the Class A public school state tournament.

On the girls side, Pelham’s Destiny Thomas, Aaliyah Williams and Mahogany Randall were named to the Class A South team. Thomas was named the classification’s co-player of the year after guiding Pelham to the Class A public state championship.

Monroe’s Alissa Jones was named to the Class AAA South team.
