ALBANY — The Albany Middle School Indians picked up a win Wednesday afternoon, running past the Panthers of Radium Springs Middle School 28-0 at Hugh Mills Stadium.
The Indians jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and after the Indian defense stopped the Panthers and forced a punt, the Indians scored on the first play when Amare Ellerson got behind the defense and was all alone on the left sideline. He caught the pass and raced 38 yards for six more Albany Middle points. David Burgess then took the ball around the right side of the line to score two more points on the extra point play.
Down 14-0, the Panthers got their offense clicking and pushed into Albany territory. The Panthers tried another pass down to the 15-yard line but the pass was batted up in the air and Ellerson grabbed the ball for an Indian interception.
The Indians led 14-0 at the half but as soon as the third quarter began the Indians were up 20-0. David Burgess got the ball on the first play and went 66 yards through the Panther defense for another Indian score.
The Panther offense couldn’t move on the next possession and the snap on the punt went awry on a bad snap and the punter tried to run with the ball. The Indians pulled him down at the 24-yard line and on the next play, Burgess went around the left side of the line for a 24-yard touchdown. Jamarcus Potts ran in the extra point conversion to make the final 28-0.
