ALBANY – The Clark-Atlanta Panthers (18-3, 12-3) won their 11th straight game Monday night, beating the Albany State Golden Rams 73-54 in front of a large crowd at Albany State’s Jones Brothers HPER Complex. The Lady Panthers started the night with a big win over the Lady Rams, 70-45. The Albany State men are now 7-15 overall and 5-11 in the conference. The Albany State women fell to 4-18 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
The men’s game was a back-and-forth affair in the first half, though the Ram defense had trouble stopping 6’8′ forward Shermani Fuller. Fuller, a junior from the Bronx, New York, scored nine of the Panthers’ first 11 points of the game.
The teams were tied 27-27 late in the first half but the Panthers scored the final six points of the half to lead 33-27 at the break. Clark-Atlanta pushed the lead to 13 points early in the second half when Fuller scored on a layup for the biggest lead of the night. The Rams pulled to within seven on a three-pointer by Cameron Evans but that was as close as Albany State could get.
Fuller finished the night with 25 points to lead all scorers. Albany State’s Shakur Poteat led the Golden Rams with 21 points. Evans and Reggie James followed with eight points while teammate Jordan Simpson pulled down 17 rebounds.
Clark Atlanta’s Lady Panthers jumped out to a 17-3 lead midway through the first quarter of their game and never trailed as they dropped Albany State to their tenth SIAC loss of the season.
Atreonia Garner scored 16 points to lead Clark Atlanta, Trinity Jones added 10, and Coriana Evans put in eight.
Keyra Peterson, Elisa Saffold, and Delecia Brown each scored eight points to lead Albany State. Peterson also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.
Albany State will host Allen University for Senior Night Saturday with the women beginning at 1 p.m. The Benedict Tigers will come to Albany for the final home game of the season on Monday with a 5:30 tip-off.
