CLASS A POWER SHOWCASE: Manchester girls roll past Calhoun County

Lady Blue Devils take easy 53-31 victory

ALBANY —It wasn’t an effort Calhoun County coach Cornelius Walker with happy with.

And he let his team know about it after they dropped a 53-31 setback to Manchester Tuesday night in the Class A Power Showcase. The games were played at Albany State University’s HPER Gymnasium.

The Lady Cougars were simply outmatched by the visiting Lady Angels of Manchester. The home team committed 18 turnovers in the first half alone. Manchester’s girls jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter and took a 27-12 halftime lead.

The visitors didn’t let up in the second half as the lead ballooned to 20 points after the break. Zakoyah Turner led the Lady Angels with 13 points. Tykira Campbell added 13 points of her own.

Calhoun County was led by Atasia Wallace’s 15 points. The Lady Cougars committed over 32 turnovers, while only forcing 19 on their own.

Manchester moved up to 4-4 on the season, while Calhoun fell to 5-3. The Lady Angels play an opponent to be announced next Monday at the Meriwether Holiday Classic in Greenville, GA. The Lady Cougars travel to Blakely to take on Early County on Jan. 3.
