ALBANY — Five Dougherty High School seniors took the next step in their football careers Thursday morning, signing national letters of intent during a celebratory ceremony in the school’s auditorium.

Four of the five Rams will continue their careers close to home, signing to play for Albany State Golden Rams, while one will head to the south metro Atlanta area.

The signing ceremony featured Dougherty’s cheerleaders and band and included remarks recognizing the accomplishments, leadership and perseverance of each senior, turning the morning into a school-wide celebration of a class that helped carry the Trojan program through its season.

Defensive standout Khalil Jones, running back Daishon Malone, and defensive backs Jatden Owens and Janard Walker all signed with Albany State University, choosing to stay in Albany and continue their careers with the Golden Rams.

Offensive lineman Braylen Bangon will take his talents to the south metro area, signing with Clayton State University.

For Dougherty High, the morning marked more than just individual achievements. It served as a testament to the work ethic of a senior class that remained committed to the program and earned opportunities to play at the next level. For Albany State, it reinforced the program’s strong local ties, with four Albany natives choosing to represent the city at the collegiate level.

As each player put pen to paper, the atmosphere reflected both pride and possibility — a reminder that the journey that began under the Friday night lights at Hugh Mills Stadium will continue for these five Trojans on college fields in the fall.
