CAMILLA — Terrell Academy didn’t take long to put Thursday afternoon’s game out of reach.

The Lady Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs in the first inning, then added seven more in the second on the way to a 17-2, three-inning victory over Westwood on a scorching August afternoon.

Lily Addison helped start the offensive avalanche and later added to it, finishing with two hits and three RBIs as Terrell Academy improved to 5-2.

“We did a good job of putting the pressure on them to make plays,” Terrell Academy coach Ashley Walker said. “We did a good job with capitalizing on some mistakes and were able to put up some runs early.”

The Lady Eagles combined four hits with four walks and three Westwood errors during the 10-run first.

Addison singled home the game’s first run before Jaelynn Oliver and Kacy Sheffield added RBI singles. Caroline Presley drove in two runs with another single, and Addison came to the plate for the second time in the inning and delivered a two-run double to right.

By the time Westwood finally escaped the inning, Terrell Academy had built a 10-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles didn’t slow down in the second.

Sheffield drove in another run with a single before Hadley Webb delivered a two-run single and Oliver followed with a two-run single of her own. Two more Westwood errors helped Terrell Academy score seven runs on three hits and stretch the lead to 17-0.

Addison, Oliver and Sheffield each finished with two hits. Addison and Oliver drove in three runs apiece, while Terrell Academy collected nine hits and drew nine walks.

The big lead allowed Walker to spread playing time throughout her roster.

“It was a good game to get some different girls time on the field and get some game time and game speed reps,” Walker said.

Presley made sure the early offensive explosion stood up. She pitched all three innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking none.

Westwood scored both of its runs on a hit by Kichler, while Cox went 2-for-2 for the Lady Cats.

Terrell Academy returns home Monday to face Southwest Georgia in Dawson before hosting Westwood in a rematch Thursday.

Westwood, now 1-1, hosts Flint River Academy on Monday.
