Former ASU athletic director Tony Duckworth lands new gig

LEESBURG — Former Albany State Athletic Director Tony Duckworth announced this past weekend that he has taken a new position and will remain in the Albany area.

Duckworth has taken a position as a pharmaceutical sales representative with Syneos Health.

“My area will be Albany and surrounding communities,” said Duckworth. “I am excited about this opportunity, and it is great for my family as our youngest son recently entered his freshman year at Lee County High School.”

Duckworth resigned his position at Albany State in February after a controversial scholarship offer was made to a Florida high school senior who used offensive racial rhetoric in an instagram video. That athlete ended up at West Florida University but the uproar led to Duckworth’s decision to leave the university.

He joined Albany State in the midst of the pandemic in January of 2020 and noted a number of accomplishments while he led the Golden Ram athletic program including: becoming the first SIAC member to return to competition after the pandemic, increasing third-party billing revenue, launching a new ticket platform and merchandise store, hosting the SIAC baseball and softball tournaments in Albany, securing an NCAA football playoff game in Albany, the first hall of fame inductions since 2013, raised more than $90,000 for the athletic department through the new Athletics Golf Classic and more.
