Georgia Southwestern golf now ranked No. 2
The Georgia Southwestern State University men’s golf team climbed to No. 2 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division II Coaches Poll released Friday, Oct. 16, matching its position in the Scoreboard powered by Clippd national computer rankings.
AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern State University men’s golf team climbed to No. 2 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA Division II Coaches Poll released Friday, Oct. 16, matching its position in the Scoreboard powered by Clippd national computer rankings.
The Hurricanes jumped four spots from No. 6 in the previous coaches poll, collecting one first-place vote and 412 points to finish just four points behind defending national champion Florida Southern. The Moccasins received 15 first-place votes and 416 points to retain the top spot for the third consecutive poll.
The latest ranking extends GSW’s remarkable run of national recognition to 59 consecutive appearances in the Bushnell/Golfweek Top 25. The Hurricanes have not fallen below No. 19 at any point during that stretch.
GSW’s standing in the national computer rankings is bolstered by four golfers ranked among the top 20 individually in NCAA Division II, including two in the top 10.
Sam Brown leads the Hurricanes at No. 5 nationally in the Scoreboard rankings and holds the top spot in the Southeast Region. Jordan Jones follows at No. 8 nationally and No. 2 in the region, giving GSW two of the nation’s eight highest-ranked players.
Sacha Corlouer checks in at No. 13 nationally and fifth in the Southeast Region, while Juan Velasquez rounds out the Hurricanes’ nationally ranked quartet at No. 18 in Division II and seventh in the region.
In the coaches poll, Lincoln Memorial (401 points), Nova Southeastern (396) and Central Oklahoma (354) round out the top five behind Florida Southern and GSW.
The Peach Belt Conference is represented by five programs in the national Top 25. Joining the Hurricanes are No. 7 North Georgia, No. 8 USC Aiken, No. 15 Columbus State and No. 22 USC Beaufort.
The next Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll, the final edition of the fall season, is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6.
