Georgia coach Kirby Smart agreed to a seven-year contract extension worth $49 million on Thursday.

Smart, 42, replaced Mark Richt as head coach in 2015 and led Georgia to the national championship game last season.

His reported annual average income of $7 million puts Smart in elite coaching company along with Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and Alabama’s Nick Saban.

The Athletic and ESPN reported Smart’s contract includes many other incentives that could push his total earnings in a given year to even greater heights. He earned $400,000 last season for winning the SEC Championship and $600,000 for guiding Georgia to the national title game in Atlanta.

Georgia increased the salary structure for Smart’s assistant coaches in the offseason.

Smart played at Georgia and was an assistant coach at Alabama from 2007-2015.

Georgia was 13-2 last season and lost in the national title game to Saban and the Crimson Tide.
