Local standouts selected to Region 1-AAA basketball teams
Monroe girls, boys come away with big honors

ALBANY — The Region 1-AAA champion Monroe Lady Tornadoes dominated the all-region teams that were recently selected by region coaches.
Monroe coach Jennifer Acree garnered coach of the year honors, while Alissa Jones was named the region player of the year after helping the Lady Tornadoes to the second round of the Georgia High School Association state tournament.
Jones was joined by Kelsey Davis and Erica Hayes on the first team, while Dee Jackson was named to the second team.
Dougherty girls standout Shy’Keria Williams was named to the first team, while her teammate Jah’ne Brown was a second team selection. Dougherty had two players — Tiana Martin and Zetambria Hall — named honorable mention.
Worth County’s DeAundra Smith was named to the second team.
On the boys side, Monroe’s Ulysses Williams was named the offensive player, while teammate Fred West was named the defensive player of the year.
The Tornadoes had Kyler Hughes and Jordan Taylor named to the second team. Karim Aquell was named honorable mention.
Dougherty’s Charles Porter was named to the first team, while Michael Sawyer and Carlos Curry were named to the second team. Terry Lewis was an honorable mention selection.
Worth County’s Jakobe Nether and Felix Wooden were first team selections. Austin Jackson and Chris Farley were named to the second team, while Gavosky Peterson was an honorable mention selection.
The boys player of the year was Crisp County’s Quentavious Dean, while Crisp coach Stacy Stephens was named coach of the year.
