ALBANY — Inclement weather Thursday night postponed two Albany-area high school football games.

In addition, Dougherty’s game with Berrien, which was scheduled to take place in Nashville on Friday, was canceled and will not be made up. Lee County’s game with Hardaway will also be postponed.

Dougherty County athletic officials are waiting until noon on Friday to make on a decision on Albany-Westover, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Administrators originally canceled the game but reversed course Thursday afternoon.

However, the remaining Albany-area games will be played tonight according to reports at press time.

Monroe was scheduled to play host to Thomasville at Hugh Mills Stadium Thursday night, while Baconton Charter was scheduled to host Chattahoochee County. However, the threat of severe weather Thursday night postponed those games.

Baconton Charter will meet Chattahoochee County at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22 in a rescheduled game at Centennial Stadium. Monroe and Thomasville hadn’t rescheduled at press time, but officials could replay the game on Sept. 30 when both schools have open dates. That date wasn’t immediately confirmed by The Albany Herald.

Many local school districts were making decisions on whether to hold school on Friday. Even if school is cancelled, Worth County will play its game against Veterans at Milt Miller Field if conditions are suitable.

“Our field doesn’t hold water well,” Worth County athletic director Frankie Carroll said. “But if we can play, we’re going to play.”

Deerfield-Windsor coach Allen Lowe confirmed that the Knights game with Terrell Academy is still set to be played tonight. Meanwhile, Mitchell County coach Larry Cornelius confirmed his team will play host to Stewart County, while Pelham’s game with Terrell County will go on as planned.

A pair of private schools have games on the road. At press time, Sherwood Christian was still going to play at Covenant, while Westwood is at Flint River.
