Pelham, Monroe girls basketball players honored by GACA

Just a week after winning the Georgia High School Association Class A public school girls state basketball championship, a trio of Pelham girls were honored by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.

Pelham senior Destiny Thomas and Wheeler County’s LaKaitlin Wright shared Class 1A-South Player of the Year honors, while Lady Hornet coach Antonia Tookes was named the coach of the year.

Aaliyah Williams and Mahogany Randall were also named to the team.

Monroe’s Alissa Jones was named to the Class 3A-South all-state team after helping the Lady Tornadoes win the Region 1-AAA title.
