ATLANTA — After two seasons marked by injuries, inconsistency and missed opportunities, the Atlanta Braves are back in a familiar place — at the top.

The Atlanta Braves climbed to No. 1 in the latest MLB Power Rankings released by MLB.com, marking the first time in more than three years the club has held the top spot.

It’s a notable return for a franchise that appeared poised to dominate following its 2021 World Series championship but instead spent the past two seasons battling setbacks. Now, the Braves not only lead the rankings — they also hold a commanding 8 1/2-game lead in the National League East, their largest margin this early in a season during their recent run of division titles.

The gap is made more significant by the struggles of division rivals in Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets, both of whom have failed to keep pace.

Around the league, the New York Yankees remained at No. 2, fueled in part by a breakout season from Ben Rice, whose 1.214 OPS leads all of baseball. With pitching reinforcements expected to return, the Yankees are viewed as one of the American League’s most complete teams.

The Los Angeles Dodgers slipped from the top spot to No. 3 after a four-game losing streak last week, though they continue to benefit from strong pitching performances, including a dominant stretch from Justin Wrobleski. However, a recent slump from Shohei Ohtani has tempered their momentum.

The Chicago Cubs held steady at No. 4, riding an 11-game home winning streak at Wrigley Field, while the San Diego Padres remained fifth amid ongoing ownership changes pending league approval.

One of the biggest risers was the Tampa Bay Rays, who jumped to No. 6 following a weekend sweep and currently hold one of the top records in the American League.

The Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers continue to navigate pitching challenges, while the St. Louis Cardinals surged into the top 10 after a strong rebound week that included series wins over Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.

Rounding out the top 10, the Pittsburgh Pirates remain one of the more unusual teams in baseball — combining a productive offense and solid pitching staff with a standing near the bottom of a tightly contested National League Central.
