Red Sox commentator Remy has relapse of cancer

Jerry Remy will be treated for a relapse of lung cancer, the former Boston Red Sox player and current NESN color commentator posted on his personal Twitter account on Monday.
“I have been diagnosed with cancer again,” the 64-year-old Remy wrote. “Treatment starts in 2 weeks. Still strong. Please see your doctor.”
A small triangular area of Remy’s lung will be removed, according to the Boston Globe.
Remy, who was a longtime smoker, initially was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and sustained relapses in both 2013 and again this year.
Remy, a Massachusetts native who also played for the Red Sox from 1978 to 1984, has been a team broadcaster since 1988.
He was in the news last week for controversial comments he made about an interpreter joining the mound visit with New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka. Remy said during a telecast he didn’t think an interpreter being included in a mound visit should be “legal,” saying baseball language should be learned.
The next day he apologized on Twitter and on the air before the start of the game.
