The highest-ranked member of Alabama’s class of 2018 has entered the NCAA transfer portal, AL.com reported Tuesday.
Linebacker Eyabi Anoma, a five-star recruit and the No. 4 overall prospect last year, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings, is seeking a transfer, according to the report.
Anoma played sparingly as a true freshman, recording nine tackles for the Crimson Tide.
The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman tweeted Anoma was “frustrated at times with getting settled in” at Alabama.
Anoma is a Baltimore native, raising speculation that he might transfer to Maryland and reunite with former Tide coach Mike Locksley, the new head coach for the Terrapins.
“Locks is such a great coach and he’s really that father figure because he can relate to some of our situations,” Anoma told Feldman last month.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Anoma played in 12 games last season. He committed to Alabama in December 2017.
