ALBANY — Sherwood Christian Academy athletic director Jay Flynt preaches a motto of “Compete with Excellence” and that is exactly what the Sherwood Christian Academy cross country teams did this week as hosted the region championship meet last week at Legacy Park and swept the girls’ and boys’ region championships on their home course.

Now the teams will travel to Macon this week to compete in the state meet in Macon.

A perfect team score in Cross Country is 15 and the Sherwood girls finished with 18 points while the boys completed the perfect score with 15 points. The other region competitors were from Abundant Life Christian Academy, Community Christian Academy, Heritage Christian Academy, Skipstone Academy and Young Americans Christian School.

Julia Kendrick led the Sherwood Christian girls in first place, Sarah Postlewaite in second, and Savannah Postlewaite in fourth.

Eliana Beck and Paxten Powers crossed fifth and sixth, respectively, to finish the scoring for the Lady Eagles. Anna NeSmith was close behind and still in the top ten in eighth place.

The Sherwood boys were just as dominant, taking eight of the top ten spots in the competition. Natnael Russell finished first with Luke Bergrab second, J.P. Cannon third, and Caleb Kendrick fourth. Christian Jackson finished the scoring for the Eagles in fifth place but the Eagles kept coming with Wesley Brooks in sixth, Miles Dobson in eighth and Raines Morton in ninth.

The Sherwood Cross Country teams are coached by James and Stacy Byrd.
