South Georgia Tech romps over Southern Crescent Tech

AMERICUS — The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets turned a competitive start into a runaway Monday night, rolling past Southern Crescent Technical College 98-53 in a Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association conference make-up game.
South Georgia Tech improved to 4-1 in GCAA play and 9-11 overall with the victory, while Southern Crescent slipped to 0-6.
Southern Crescent, playing with just five available players, scored first and clung to a slim lead for much of the opening quarter. The Lady Jets edged in front 13-12 with 3:37 left in the period and carried a 19-16 advantage into the first break. South Georgia Tech steadily built separation in the second quarter and went to halftime leading 47-33.
Depth and pace took over after the break.

Fatigue set in for the Lady Tigers in the third quarter as South Georgia Tech outscored Southern Crescent 21-8. The margin widened further in the fourth, when two Southern Crescent players fouled out and the Lady Jets closed the game on a 30-12 run.
Freshman guard Ja’Niya Broome led South Georgia Tech with 34 points. Sophomore Taja Bennett added a dominant double-double with 23 points and 22 rebounds, while freshman point guard Candice Ganga finished with 19 points, four rebounds and five assists.
Jada Jones chipped in eight points, Sephora Benth and Sarah Mellouk scored five apiece, and Jaidyn Elam added four to round out the scoring for the Lady Jets.
Jade Glamory and Mikayla Jamison paced Southern Crescent with 24 and 21 points, respectively.
South Georgia Tech sits in second place in the GCAA standings, trailing unbeaten East Georgia State College (4-0). The Lady Jets are scheduled to travel to Central Georgia Technical College on Saturday, Feb. 7, for a 1 p.m. tip, then head to Albany to face Albany Technical College at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, as part of a doubleheader with the Jets to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams return home Saturday, Feb. 14, to host East Georgia State in another doubleheader, with the Lady Jets tipping off at 1 p.m. followed by the Jets at 3 p.m.
