Deerfield-Windsor boys soccer team advances
The Deerfield-Windsor boys soccer team fell behind early against Holy Spirit Prep in the first round of the Georgia Independent Schools Association state soccer tournament Friday.
However, the Knights came storming back.
After giving up two goals in the first 10 minutes, Deerfield-Windsor scored seven unanswered to take a 7-2 victory in the at Holy Spirit Prep.
The deficit could have been bigger, but a missed opportunityfor Holy Spirit to make it a potential 3-0 game swung the momentum in Deerfield’s favor.
“They could have been up three and missed,” Deerfield-Windsor coach Aly Joslin said. “It’s funny how that works. They had a chance to put us away, but then we started playing well after that missed chance.”
DWS received goals from five different players. Carson Orlowski and Reynolds Langstaff each scored two, while Parker Orlowski, Joe Tondera and Brynn Sammons each scored one.
Joslin noted that his team looked to be sluggish to start the game.
“They were really on top of us at the start,” he said. “We couldn’t get control of the game. It shows great character that we came back. They could have dropped their heads after going down 2-0.”
Reynolds scores hole-in-one
Jay Reynolds scored a hole-in-one Tuesday at the Doublegate Country Club. Reynolds accomplished the goal on the par 3, No. 6 hole using an 8-iron. The event was witnessed by Bill Collins and Tyler Adcoy.
Falcons not opposed to trading back in draft
Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff, who has just have five picks in the upcoming draft, is not opposed to trading back in the first round to amass some more picks.
The Falcons and the Rams have the fewest picks in the draft, which is set for Thursday through Saturday in Chicago.
“We think there are some good opportunities all the way into the third round,” Dimitroff said on Thursday. “It does present options to potentially move back.”
Dimitroff has made a trade in all eight of his previous drafts and has already reached out to potential partners in anticipation of making moves. The three-day structure of the draft makes it more conducive to trading Dimitroff and head coach Dan Quinn said.
Most of Dimitroff’s moves have been to move up to land targeted players like tackle Sam Baker in 2008, wide receiver Julio Jones in 2011 and cornerback Desmond Trufant in 2013.
“Yeah, I’ve been aggressive here since 2008, but I’m not against moving back at all,” Dimitroff said. “We look at all of the different scenarios and having fewer picks this year, we think the draft has some really good strength from 15 on.”
