Ex-ASU softball player enters coaching ranks

Former Albany State softball player Danielle Turner has joined the coaching staff at Wayne State College in Nebraska as a graduate assistant, according to a news release from ASU.

Wayne State is a NCAA Division II institution and member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

“I’m am really excited to join the staff at Wayne State,” said Turner, a 2018 ASU grad. “Everyone has gone out of their way to welcome me to the Wildcat Family and I’d like to thank Coach (Shelli) Manson and Coach (Krissi) Oliver for the opportunity.”

“I also have to thank Coach (April) Barker for recommending me. It was her coaching and guidance that has prepared me for this moment. I appreciate her so much for all that she has done.”

Turner played two seasons at Darton State before joining the ASU program as a junior following the merger of the two institutions. She participated in ASU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and took part in the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in Novenber.

As a senior, Turner, an infielder, played in 36 games, batting .261 with two home runs and 20 RBI.

GSW picks up transfers

The Georgia Southwestern women’s basketball team picked up three transfers for the upcoming season, the university announced in a release Tuesday.

Kayla Smith, Brianna Perry and Morgan Towells join head coach Kelly Britsky’s program.

Smith is a guard-forward from Covington who played on the junior college level at Atlanta Metro. Perry is a guard from Roswell who played at Moberly Area Community College in Missouri. Towells is a guard from Brooklyn, New York, by way of IMG Academy and Jacksonville State.
