Telfair County ends Baconton Charter’s baseball season

BACONTON — The Baconton Charter baseball team’s season came to a close Friday in the quarterfinals of the GHSA Class 1A-Public playoffs.
Baconton Charter, the Region 1-1A champion, was swept 13-2 and 8-7 by Telfair County.
In the first game, Telfair County blew open a close game in the final two innings, scoring five runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
Cameo Blankenship went 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles in the No. 2 spot in the lineup for Telfair County, scoring four runs and driving home three. Telfair County clean-up batter Ryan Dopson went 3-for-5 with two RBI, with leadoff batter Harrison Wood adding three RBI.
Dopson pitched a complete-game victory for Telfair County.
Jacob Smith went 2-for-3 for Baconton Charter in the opener. Smith Pinson took the loss.
In Game 2, Baconton Charter took a 7-2 lead into the bottom half of the sixth, only for Telfair County to score six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Telfair County put its first six runners on base safely in the sixth. The game was tied on an error, and Telfair County took the lead on Ian Blankenship’s double.
Spencer Culp went 2-for-3 with a double four RBI in Game 2 for Baconton Charter. Smith and Logan Cain each had two hits, as well. Culp took the loss in relief.
Dopson had a pair of doubles for Telfair County in Game 2. Jarrett Dopson claimed the victory in relief.
Baconton Charter finishes with a 20-7 record.
