UNADILLA – The Westover Patriots breezed to a 28-0 win over Dooly County on Friday in a season warm-up scrimmage. The Patriots didn’t score on their first possession but got rolling and scored four straight times.
“We were kind of slow on the first drive,” said quarterback Keyon Thomas. “But then we picked it up. The defense was strong all night and after that first drive we started clicking.”
Westover linebacker Jordan Lassiter enjoyed being on the field against a different opponent.
“It was really good to see us flying to the ball,” Lassiter said. “I think our defense is going to be pretty strong this season. We’ve got some big guys up front and everybody is quick and moves to the ball fast.”
Senior wide receiver Tyreek Baldwin didn’t like the start but did enjoy the way the game ended.
“We should have started better,” Baldwin said. “We’ve got to do better in our next game, but we did get better and finished strong. Later in the game, things felt good and went smoothly.”
The Patriots now have two weeks to prepare for the season opener on August 16 on the road against Early County.
