ALBANY — Casey Wilson doesn’t have a whole lot to say.

The soft-spoken Westover High School football standout preferred to let his performance on the field do the talking instead.

Wilson’s production with the Patriots has earned him a chance to play at the next level.

The tight end signed a letter-of-intent to play at the University of Mount Union Wednesday afternoon.

“He was one of those silent assassin-type guys,” Westover coach Octavia Jones said. “He wasn’t very vocal and didn’t really talk very much. His performances on the field kind of showed that he led by example.”

Wilson was one of Westover’s go-to receivers this past season. He finished the year with 19 catches for 308 yards and two touchdowns and was named to the Region 1-AAAA first team offense.

The Mount Union coaches were not only intrigued by his stats but his ability to be a hybrid tight end/wide receiver.

“They liked my athletic ability and the way I ran my routes,” Wilson said. “They really just liked my overall game.”

Jones said Wilson will be successful because of his dedication.

“He is a student of the game,” Jones said. “He has a good knowledge of football and works hard off the field and in the classroom. He has a hunger to get better every day. He is always trying to do the little things that make you a better athlete.”

In addition to Mount Union, Wilson received interest from a couple of other schools including Reinhardt University.

“I visited the other two schools, but I just thought that Mount Union was the best fit for me,” Wilson said.

Mount Union is a Division III school located in Alliance, Ohio. The Purple Raiders have won 12 national championships including the most recent one.
