ALBANY — Jasmine Young has her future career figured out. And she has used soccer to help her get there.

The Westover High School standout signed a soccer scholarship with Agnes Scott College Thursday afternoon in the school auditorium. Agnes Scott is a private, liberal arts women’s college in Atlanta who is an NCAA Division III school.

“They have this dual degree program with Emory and an automatic entrance,” Young said. “I want to get an education … soccer is something I do for fun.”

Young has helped the Lady Patriots into the postseason several times in her career, playing mostly forward. She also considered Mercer, Georgia Southwestern and Huntingdon College. She plans to be a nurse.

She tore her ACL midway through her sophomore season and missed the remainder of the year. However, she has rebounded with strong junior and senior seasons.

Young smiled a lot and tried to shy away from the spotlight on Thursday.

“I don’t get too excited,” she said. “But I’m sure all of this will hit me at one time.”

The Scotties finished 9-10 last season and lost to UC Santa Cruz in the semifinals of the Great South Athletic Conference. Young believes she will fit right in.

“I’m excited,” she said. “I love soccer, but I want to be a nurse. When I leave Agnes Scott, I should have a BA, then I can get my BS from Emory.”
