Worth sweeps Monroe, sets up region championship battle with Cook County

ALBANY — The Worth County Rams swept two games against Monroe on Friday afternoon at Paul Eames Park in Albany and Cook County swept Crisp County this week which means the Rams will face the Hornets next week for a winner-take-all region championship series. The Rams will host game one at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sylvester and travel to Adel for the crucial double-header next Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Rankings by maxpreps.com shows that Worth County (21-2) is currently ranked No. 3 in Class AAA while Cook County (16-10) sits at No.14. Both teams are 6-9 in region play.
Against Monroe, Worth’s Bailey Coker pitched a perfect game in the second game of the double-header as the Rams beat Monroe 20-2 in Game 1 and 14-0 in Game 2. In the second game, Coker pitched four innings with no hits, no runs and no walks, and struck out eight batters.
Gregory Lott took the loss on the mound for the Tornadoes.
The Rams belted 11 hits against Monroe in the second game and opened the game by scoring 11 runs in the first inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Jack Fletcher, Bryce Graddy, Cason King and Jeremiah Reddell, a triple by Gabe Goff, a sacrifice fly by Fletcher, an error on a ball put in play by Parker Castleberry, and a double by Gabe Burger.
In Game 1 the Rams blew the game open in the second inning with 11 runs crossing the plate en route to the 20-2 win. Reddell, Goff, Fletcher, Burger, Kelly, and Goff, who all drove in runs during that huge second inning.
The Rams scattered 15 hits during the game. Goff, Reddell, Fletcher and Cason Kingeach racked up multiple hits. Goff went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Worth County.
Right-hander Jack Fletcher took the win on the mound for the Rams. He pitched three innings. He gave up two runs on one hit and struck out eight batters.
Monroe’s Thomas Fogarty took the loss on the mound for the Golden Tornadoes.
