On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to extend congratulations and thanks to longtime South Georgia Judicial Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge A. Wallace Cato on his retirement from full-time judicial service effective Dec. 31.

During his distinguished career of 53 years in Georgia’s legal profession and justice system, Judge Cato served as district attorney for the South Georgia Circuit, covering Baker, Calhoun, Decatur, Grady and Mitchell counties, prior to joining the Superior Court bench in 1978. He has served as chief judge for the circuit since 1982 and also served the public as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives and the courts of this state as president of the Georgia Council of Superior Court Judges.

All members of the State Bar of Georgia are grateful for the dedicated service of Judge Cato and are inspired by his many contributions toward strengthening the foundations of our justice system, which protects the rights and liberties of all Americans. We wish him well in the years ahead.
