Albany doctor stabbed during early Monday altercation

ALBANY — An Albany doctor, John Phillips IV was attacked and stabbed after leaving Phoebe North early Monday morning, according to an Albany Police Department report.
Monday’s incident occurred around 3:52 a.m. and reports indicate, Phillips was returning to Phoebe Main when he had car trouble.
“Dr. John Phillips IV advised that he was returning from Phoebe North after leaving his stethoscope at the location,” APD Officer Larry Hart writes in the report. “After retrieving his stethoscope, he then advised that he was returning to Phoebe Main. While heading back to the location, Phillips advised that it felt as if his tire (front passenger side tire) was wobbling. He advised that he stopped at the four way stop sign near Tift Park (N. Monroe St./5th Ave). After stopping, John then got out of his car to take a look at the tire.”
According to the report, that is when Phillips was attacked.
“John stated that as he bent over, he was hit across the head with a stick,” the report said. “John advised that a black male approximately 5 (feet) 8 inches in height and weighing approximately 140 pounds then asked for money. John then gave the male his wallet (brown in color). After giving the male his wallet, John then tried to get back in his vehicle. While going to the vehicle, John advised that the male pulled out a knife. After pulling out the knife, John stated that the male then stabbed him in the arm (left forearm) and in the stomach (left abdomen).”
The report indicates that after being stabbed, Phillips grabbed the knife and the subject ran away.
“After being stabbed, John advised that he then grabbed the knife from the subject,” the report stated. “After grabbing the knife, the subject then let the knife go and ran in an unknown direction.”
After the incident, Phillips drove himself to the hospital.
According to APD officials, no suspects have been identified and the incident is under investigation.
