ALBANY — Athletes from Albany and around the state of Georgia will converge on Albany State West next weekend for the 12th annual All-Star Weekend over the course of two days. Sixty basketball athletes — 30 girls and 30 boys — have been selected to participate. Some athletes were in Albany on Sunday for an optional workout at the Albany YMCA.

“You have to be the best of the best to get an invite,” Dr. Earnest Brown told reporters earlier this week.

Brown and co-founder Stephen Davis began the All-Star Weekend in Albany 12 years ago to help local players get more exposure to college basketball coaches. The event now takes about six months to plan and create, and numerous college coaches will be on hand for the event.

Three former participants are now active in the National Football League, while many others have gone on to play Division One college basketball, as well as all of the other levels of college basketball.

The weekend schedule includes:

Friday

5:30 p.m. — Stop the Violence “Community Heroes” Classic

7 p.m. — “Rising Stars” Class of 2025 Girls Classic

8:30 p.m. — “Rising Stars” Class of 2025 Boys Classic
