Familia named to all-region team

Albany State outfielder Riliani Familia was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division II South All-Region First Team, Albany State announced Tuesday in a news release.

Familia, a senior, led Albany State in batting (.414) and slugging percentage (.722) and had the top RBI mark in the SIAC with 64. He was named to the All-SIAC first team and the all-SIAC Tournament team.

Delta State first baseman Zack Shannon was named South Region Position Player of the Year, while Tampa’s David Lebron was named South Region Pitcher of the Year.

ASU signs sprinter from Lovejoy

Lovejoy sprinter Rodney Tookes signed to continue his track and field career at Albany State.

Tookes was the captain of the track and field program. He holds the Lovejoy school record in the 400-meter, an event in which he won a Clayton County championship in 2018. Tookes also placed at state in the 400-meter and as part of the 400-meter relay team. He was named First Team All-County by the Clayton News.

In 2016, Tookes was a USATF National All-American in the 400. He also placed at state as a junior in 2017 and as a freshman in 2015.
