T. Gamble: Rosie and Kyle: A match made in … hell?

Perhaps Rosie O’Donnell and Kyle Menendez were meant for each other.

As you may already know, convicted California double murderers Lyle and Erik Menendez have applied to the California court system to have their sentence commuted, reduced or overturned. Now it is indisputable that these two men, at a young age, killed both their mother and father. They claim they suffered years of sexual and verbal abuse before finally taking this drastic action. This case is, of course, in California so God only knows what the court may decide to do.

While we wait with baited breath, whatever in the hell that actually means, Rosie O’Donnell announced she is in a long-time friendship and loves Kyle Menendez, stating, “For the first time in my life, I felt safe enough to trust and be vulnerable and love a straight man.”

Kyle has been in prison now for 36 years. There is a strong argument that for his actions, he needs harsh punishment. But hasn’t he been punished enough? All these years in prison and now Rosie O’Donnnell wants him? A man can only take so much. This fact alone should qualify him for early release.

Of course, Kyle may decide when facing the reality that upon release he will be delivered to the open arms of Rosie, to pull his petition and ask to remain in prison. There are, it seems, worse things than being confined in a maximum-security prison.

But I think it is only fair to consider this situation from the perspective of Rosie as well. She says Lyle is the first straight man she has ever trusted and can be vulnerable with. Oh boy, that is a real mouthful. Lyle shot his father multiple times and then chased his mother down, shooting her with a shotgun until he ran out of shells. She did not die and drug herself throughout the home trying to escape. So Lyle went outside to his truck, reloaded his shotgun, went back inside and finished the job.

Please understand, I certainly do not know all the straight men Rosie has encountered in her life, but where was she raised, death row? If she likes Kyle, it is too bad Charles Manson has already kicked the bucket. They would have been a match made in heaven. Who knew trusting a straight man involved double-homicide and parent-killing?

I’m not Rosie’s advisor — based upon her statements, it appears she does not have one — but I’d be a little wary of being vulnerable with ‘ole Kyle. His track record is just a wee bit suspect. Rosie admits her friends expressed trepidation about her merely speaking with Kyle. Word to the wise: Any sentence with the word trepidation included should be given much leeway.

I guess all I can say is I am glad Rosie has moved to Ireland. If Kyle gets out, maybe he will move there, too. In the meantime, I’m going to try and avoid any of the straight men Rosie has ever been around.
