ALBANY — Drug agents arrested two metro Atlanta men on Tuesday in connection with a prescription forgery at a local pharmacy.
Deandre Jacquez Boyd and James Thomas Hood, both 21, were arrested shortly after 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Warehouse Package Store following an illegal drug purchase at Walgreens, 2351 Dawson Road, said Maj Bill Berry, commander of the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit.
During the arrest, drug agents discovered a small electronic device and blank forms inside the men’s vehicle, which Berry said may have been used to print false prescriptions.
“We’ve noticed a huge increase in fraudulent prescriptions lately,” Berry said, “and most of the suspects in these cases aren’t from Albany.”
Berry said the agents were working on a tip concerning the pair’s activity in area drug stores and had been following them through the early part of Tuesday.
Boyd remained in the Dougherty County Jail on Wednesday, officials say, charged with two counts of obtaining controlled substances through fraud and giving false information to police officers.
Hood is charged with giving a false name to officers, seat belt violation and driving without a license. Jail officials say he’s been released on $1,600 bond.
