ALBANY — A high-energy live music performance by 88 Licks Dueling Pianos, a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres and a 50/50 raffle are on the agenda as the Junior League of Albany hosts its annual fundraising event to benefit Liberty House of Albany and the Children’s Miracle Network.

The event takes place on Saturday at Doublegate Country Club, starting at 7 p.m. Performing will be dueling pianists, featuring some of the most popular musicians in South Georgia. Their performance incorporates sing-along, hand-clapping and audience participation.

Founded in 1964, the Junior League of Albany is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. The organization is made up of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through leadership and action. Their focus is on education and charitable activities.

Every few years, the Junior League “adopts” a “signature project” to support an organization within the community. The Junior League currently is in partnership with Liberty House of Albany. Liberty House provides emergency housing and comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence.

According to the Liberty House website, “The vision of this organization is to work toward the elimination of domestic violence in our community and service area by providing emergency shelter, advocacy, education, awareness and collaboration to ensure that all victims are empowered to achieve self-sufficiency.”

The Junior League has also elected to donate a portion of funds raised in 2018 to Children’s Miracle Network.

Kirstin Collins, co-chair of the event, said this is the second fundraiser sponsored by the club. The last time was in 2015, when $19,000 was raised and distributed between the Albany ARC and the Children’s Miracle Network.

“We take on or ‘adopt’ a local agency every three years,” Collins said.

Ginger Faircloth is the other co-chair of the event. She said the venue will hold 300 people, and the Junior League expects to sell out all tickets in advance.

The Albany Junior League is a growing league with more than 40 active members and a supportive sustained membership, Collins added.

Collins said the upcoming dueling pianos event is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year.

Tickets for the event are $50 and can be ordered online at www.jlalbany.org. Contact either Collins, at (850) 766-3041, or Faircloth, at (229) 869-9224, for additional information.
