TIFTON — Dwight Yoakam has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, and he is a 21-time nominated, multiple Grammy Award winner. This Thursday, the country music star will perform with his full band live in concert at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center.
Over the course of his career, Yoakam has delivered 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum albums, with five of those albums topping Billboard’s Country Albums chart, and another 14 landing in the Top 10. Additionally, nearly 40 of Yoakam’s singles have charted, with 14 peaking in the Top 10.
At the 2013 Americana Music Honors & Awards ceremony, Yoakam received the prestigious Artist of the Year award.
On Thursday night, Yoakam will perform along with his full band. The concert is expected to draw both country music fans and those who love bluegrass.
Yoakam’s latest country album was released in 2015. “Second Hand Heart,” on Warner/Reprise records, was the follow up to his critically-acclaimed album called “3 Pears.”
In September 2016, Yoakam dug way back to his Kentucky roots and released his first ever bluegrass album called “Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars” which was released on Sugar Hill Records. Featuring a band of bluegrass luminaries, that album was a collection of re-interpreted favorites from his catalogue, as well as a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” The album was produced by nine-time Grammy winner Gary Paczosa (Alison Krause/Dolly Parton), Jon Randall (songwriter of “Whiskey Lullaby”), and Yoakam himself. The album was mixed by Chris Lord-Algeause.
In addition to his musical career, Yoakam is a film and television actor who has performed with Jodie Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, Jared Leto, and Matthew McConaughey.
Opening act for the Thursday night show is the Craig Brown Band of Detroit.
Their debut full-length album, “The Lucky Ones Forget,” was recorded at Brown Rice Studio with Warren Defever (Thurston Moore, Yoko Ono, Iggy and the Stooges) —and is now available on Third Man Records. For years, Craig Brown shared lead vocals and guitar work in punk band, called Terrible Twos.
The show is presented by Six String Southern Productions in association with McAlpin Entertainment.
