TIFTON — Grammy-winning country music superstar Vince Gill will bring his soaring tenor voice and world-class guitar skills to Tifton on June 8 for “An Evening With Vince Gill.”

Tickets for the performance by Gill and his band go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday.

“We’re excited about it,” Sarah Mathis with Six String Southern Productions, which is presenting the show with McAlpin Entertainment, said. “We actually just did a show with him in February in Macon.

“We had such a good response in Macon that we jumped at the opportunity to do another show with him. He was already going to be in north Georgia, and it worked out with the date.”

The 7 p.m. show will be at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center, located at 15 RDC Road. Ticket prices range from $39-$69. Tickets will be available starting Friday at ticketalternative.com or by calling (877) 725-8849.

“It’s an evening with Vince,” Mathis said, adding there will be no opening act. “At that show, as soon as the music starts, it’ll be him.”

Gill is one of the most popular singers in modern country music. Since 1990, he has won 21 Grammys, the most by any male country music artist. A long-time member of The Time Jumpers, he won his most recent Grammy this year, taking the Best American Roots Song Award for “Kid Sister,” the title track for The Time Jumpers’ latest album. That was a song he wrote to honor Dawn Sears, a vocalist with the band who died of cancer in 2o14.

He also has a record four Song of the Year trophies among his 18 CMA awards, and has won eight Academy of Country Music awards, including the Home Depot Humanitarian Award and the 2011 Career Achievement Award.

That career has landed the singer-songwriter in both the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (2005) and the Country Music Hall of Fame (2007). A member of the Grand Ole Opry, Gill was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012.

Gill has produced albums for LeAnn Rimes, Amy Grant and Ashley Monroe. He also has made guest appearances on more than 1,000 albums, including records by Barbra Streisand, Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and George Jones.

Gill’s the latest in a series of country music concerts at Tifton.

“We figured out there’s a real desire for it (in south Georgia),” Mathis said. “We’ve done Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard in the past, and those just went over so well. We know there’s people who want to see acts like that.

“We’ve already had a strong response. We’ve got a good feeling that this is going to be a big show for us.”

Six String Southern Productions is based in Conyers and has promoted concerts by artists such as Gill, Nelson, Haggard, Dwight Yoakam and Travis Tritt. McAlpin Entertainment, based in TyTy, is a concert promotions company and booking and talent-buying agency.
