Monthly outreach planned at McIntosh neighborhood
Staff Reports
ALBANY — Each month, the Mission:Change organization conducts a community service project in Albany. On Saturday, the local 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization will host a fall festival with fun and games in the park at 631 W. First Ave. for kids and families who live in the McIntosh Housing neighborhood.
Volunteers are needed to assist with hayrides, pumpkin bowling, face painting, mini-golf, pumpkin painting, doughnut bobbing, fishing for treats and other games and activities. Organizers ask volunteers to show up at the park at 9 a.m. to help set up. The event begins at 10 a.m. and runs until noon.
Individually wrapped candy donations also are needed.
According to its website, Mission:Change is a grassroots, volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and taking action concerning often overlooked issues that not only affect our region and our world, but speak to the core of our humanity.
Under the slogan “Change the World From Your Backyard,” the organization plans, promotes and produces year-round community service projects throughout Albany and brings in short-term mission teams to conduct community service projects throughout the year.
Every month Mission:Change sponsors a monthly mission designed to highlight various areas of need in the community and connect volunteers with the specific causes and organizations. From building affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity to handing out food to the hungry through the Second Harvest Food Bank to performing much-needed maintenance at a homeless shelter to simply spending a fun-filled Saturday with local underserved children, Mission:Change is proactively working to make a difference in Albany.
