Albany Museum of Art 2017 Winning Eassys

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Albany Museum of Art conducted its third annual A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words essay contest for college and high school students in the Albany area.

Each year, the museum makes available six pieces that students may choose to write about in essays of 1,000 words or fewer. Each student must visit the museum at 311 Meadowlark Drive in Albany to view the six pieces and then select one to focus on in the essay. The works of art were three paintings by Katie Bacon ( “Behind the Vanity,” “Grand Street’s Underground Hustle” and “Under the Umbrella on Hilton Head”) and three photos (“Norman Rockwell with Young Boy,” “Triple Self-Portrait,” also featuring Rockwell, and “Snowy House”).

Contest winners collect $250 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third in each division. The winners were announced at a reception Nov. 9 at the AMA.

These are the six winning essays and four honorable mention essays in the college and high school divisions.
