ALBANY – The Albany Police Department made arrests this week in two recent assault cases, including an incident in which an off-duty police officer found an unconscious woman who had been sexually assaulted.

The officer found the unconscious victim on the 900 block of South Jefferson Street on Saturday, police said, and she was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

After being notified that the victim, who suffered serious injuries, had been sexually assaulted, investigators identified Johnnie Jones, 63, as a suspect. Police arrested Jones, who has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, rape and aggravated stalking. He is being held in the Dougherty County Jail.

Police also arrested an 18-year-old Albany man in connection with shots fired toward a Monroe High School student walking from the campus on Monday.

Jacques Hicks was charged with aggravated assault and transported to the Dougherty County Jail after he was questioned about the incident, the Albany Police Department said.

Shots were fired at a 16-year-old male student at about 3:52 p.m. near the intersection of Lippitt Drive and South Harding Street, police said.

Officers also questioned a 20-year-old man, but he was released and is no longer considered a suspect, police said.
