PLAINS — Southwest Georgians looking for some nostalgia can head to the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site this weekend for Cane Syrup Day.

The event will be held 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the site, located in Plains. Demonstrations will include cane squeezing, syrup making, corn shelling and blacksmithing.

“Visitors to the Jimmy Carter boyhood farm will experience the syrup-making process that President Carter wrote about in his book, ‘An Hour Before Daylight,'” states a news release. “President Carter’s childhood memories, such as this, are kept alive through living history demonstrations at the boyhood farm.”
