ALBANY – For the second time in two weeks, a motorcycle accident proved deadly on Albany’s streets, and as was the case in the earlier accident, speed was a contributing factor in the fatality, according to Albany Police.

A Saturday accident at the intersection of West Gordon and West Waddell avenues claimed the life of driver Charles Bagley, 55, of Albany. Passenger Joyce Holland, 43, of Ocilla, received serious injuries and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Bagley was pronounced dead at the scene, Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said.

The Albany Police Department was dispatched to the scene at about 11:23 p.m. Bagley was driving west on West Gordon Avenue and did not see the curve in the roadway, according to police.

On Jan. 27, Michael Jermain Peterson, 51, and 31-year-old Jeremy Lockhart were both killed when Peterson failed to negotiate a curve at the intersection of West Lincoln Avenue and Walnut Street, Police Chief Michael Persley said.

“That’s what they need to do (slow down), especially on a motorcycle,” Fowler said. “There’s nothing between them and the pavement on a motorcycle.”
