STATESBORO — The Lee County baseball team upended Effingham County — a program the Trojans (2-0) very well might see in the state playoffs down the road — Friday night, 1-0, after a sloppy sixth inning that produced the only run of the game.

With the score tied, 0-0, Chase Griffin was walked, then Chase Burnfin came on as a pinch runner. Burnfin then advanced to second on a sac bunt by winning pitcher Daniel Nichols, then Burnfin stole third on a pitch in the dirt. Burnfin then came home on a wild pitch.

Pedro Cruz, Andrew Stroud, Justin Walker and Tanner Stone had Lee’s only four hits. Cole Goodwin left the game after five innings of four-hit ball with the score tied, 0-0. He struck out five and Nichols allowed two hits and struck out two in relief.

Lee next plays today at 10 a.m. vs. Calvary Day, then again at noon against Statesboro.
