ALBANY — The Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit seized 16 pounds of marijuana early Monday, according to an ADDU report.
Around 4 a.m. on Monday, Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office deputies overheard shots fired at the Bethel Apartment complex while patrolling the 500 block of Swift Street.
According to reports, deputies observed a black 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche fleeing the area. The vehicle was driven by Cortrez Jermoine Jackson. Deputies made contact with Jackson on the 1300 block of East Broad Avenue and detained him.
Once Jackson was detained, a firearm and shell casing that had possibly been used in the shooting were recovered, according to the ADDU report.
Deputies began searching the vehicle and discovered a large quantity of marijuana, along with an open container of beer that Jackson was drinking while driving.
ADDU was called in, and when drug agents arrived on the scene they recovered 16 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $33,000, along with a .38 caliber pistol.
Jackson, 34, is currently in the Dougherty County Jail and has been charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, DUI and open container.
At this time, no victims or concerned citizens have come forward with any information about the shooting incident.
