ALBANY — Albany police and the FBI were asking for the public’s help in locating a white Impala that may have been used as the getaway car by a bank robber who held up the People’s Bank at 701 N. Westover Blvd. late Friday morning.

The west Albany bank was the second financial institution to be held up this week after the DOCO Credit Union on Rosebrier Avenue in east Albany was robbed Wednesday around 12:30 p.m.

A spokesman for the FBI office in Atlanta said Friday that investigators did not believe the two holdups were related.

Albany Police Department spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said an unidentified black male about 6 feet tall entered the People’s Bank around 11:22 a.m. and handed a note to a teller, demanding money. Authorities had not determined Friday whether the bandit, who left the bank with an unknown amount of money in a case, was armed.

The robber was wearing a green Army hat and green shirt, APD said.

The FBI said the auto that authorities believe the bandit escaped in was a white 2000 to mid-2000s model Chevrolet Impala. The car has a horseshoe logo, similar to the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts symbol, in the lower left of the rear windshield, and what may be a medical symbol in the rear driver’s side window.

No arrests had been made in the DOCO robbery, FBI officials said Friday.

In that robbery, an unidentified black male wearing a dark U.S. Air Force hat, green T-shirt and khaki pants entered the credit union at 2101 Rosebrier Ave. and also handed the teller a note demanding money. The robber claimed in his note that he was armed with a gun.

He was also described as wearing a light-colored bracelet on his left wrist, a dark-colored watch on his right wrist and white tennis shoes. That bandit left on foot and was last seen in the park area behind the Tallulah branch of the public library.

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes either of the individual or the vehicle used by the second robber to contact the APD or the FBI Atlanta field office at (404) 679-9000.
