ALBANY — The Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit (ADDU) was led on a high-speed chase early Tuesday evening after attempting to pull over a suspicious vehicle, according to officials.

“At approximately, 6:47 p.m., ADDU interdiction officers attempted to stop a 1988 Mercury Mountaineer for failure to maintain lane,” Albany Police Department spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said. “The driver failed to stop when directed by police and fled.”

According to Banks, agents pursued the suspect to the 700 block of West Whitney Avenue, where the driver abandoned his vehicle.

“At this point, the driver bailed and attempted to take flight from police on foot,” said Banks. “He was apprehended and detained.”

According to reports, during the search of the vehicle, officers discovered a small amount of cocaine and spice (synthetic marijuana), which was recovered as evidence.

Reports indicate that the driver, Neiyeal Devon Alford, 39, was arrested and charged with fleeing and attempting to allude, reckless driving, suspended license, possession of cocaine and possession of spice.
