ALBANY — A driver was arrested by the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit during a traffic stop after officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana and discovered more than 2.5 pounds of the illegal substance, along with 29.5 grams of cocaine in the car, ADDU officials said during a news conference Tuesday.
“On Nov. 18 at 11:35 a.m., ADDU interdiction officers were executing a traffic stop on a green Honda Accord,” said ADDU Lt. Carmelita Preston. “It was on 11th Avenue. The subject ran two stop signs, and when (officers) executed the traffic stop, there was a strong odor of marijuana coming out of the vehicle.”
During the search of the vehicle, officers discovered the large stash of drugs.
“Because of the strong odor of marijuana coming out of the vehicle, it was searched,” Preston said. “They found over 2.5 pounds of marijuana, and 29.5 grams of cocaine was recovered.”
According to ADDU, Kavoski Denorris Johnson, 30, has been charged with trafficking cocaine; illegal drugs — marijuana, meth; probation violation; marijuana — purchase, possession with intent to distribute, manufacturing, distribution, sale, dispensing; possession of drug-related objects, and two counts of stop sign violation.
