ALBANY — The Albany Museum of Art and Albany Recreation and Parks Department, with a big assist from the Thronateeska Heritage Center, will host the museum’s annual Family Day activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Thronateeska on Roosevelt Avenue in Albany.
The event is free and open to the public.
Held for the last nine years among the big oaks on the campus of the Albany Museum of Art, Family Day is being held this year at Thronateeska following officials at that attraction’s offer to host the event after the devastating storms left the museum and surrounding grounds in disrepair. Participants can expect to enjoy the same types of activities and experiences associated with the annual event.
“While it’s disappointing that we are not able to host the event this year, we’re grateful for the new partnership and opportunities that having the event at Thronateeska has created,” said Chloe Hint0n, director of education and public programming for the Albany Museum of Art. “We are excited that we can still offer this event to the public because so many look forward to attending every year.”
The theme for this year’s Family Day event honors the upcoming spring season, and activities are planned for both indoors and out, including a massive sidewalk chalk activity. Located inside Thronateeska will be various arts and crafts stations as well as an interactive scavenger hunt that will allow successful participants to take a trip to the toy chest for a prize.
A new offering specific to the temporary location is the show running throughout the day at Wetherbee Planetarium, which is part of the Thronateeska center. Families can choose from showings at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. for $3.50 plus tax (per person). All other activities are free of charge.
“It’s a free, high-quality event offered to the community, and a wonderful opportunity for parents to spend time with their children and create art projects and memories together,” Kristin Caso, supervisor of marketing and special events for the Albany Recreation and Parks Department, said.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
