ALBANY — The Albany Police Department has charged 34-year-old Victor Roberts with the April 7 burglary of the Dollar General store located at 408 South Slappey Blvd.
According to APD reports, officers responded to an active burglary alarm on the evening of April 7. Upon arrival, officers discovered the double glass front door of the business had been smashed. A quick check of the premises determined the offender was not still inside, and officers notified the Dollar General officials.
Further investigation of the interior found that miscellaneous items, such as shirts and multiple pairs of headphones, were on the floor, along with other merchandise out of place on far aisles.
A review of the security camera video footage revealed that at approximately 3:08 a.m., a black male, wearing a light-colored hoodie, between 5-feet-9 and 5-feet-10 inches tall and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds, approached the front door of the closed business and began repeatedly throwing large rocks at the lower glass of one of the sliding doors.
After finally breaking the glass, the subject entered the building where he was observed grabbing miscellaneous clothing from the clearance rack and several pairs of headphones. After the alarm sounded, the subject appeared to panic, mulled around the cash register for several seconds and then exited the building the same way he entered.
Roberts was identified from store security footage, as his face was clearly visible from several different cameras. The shattered glass was not processed for fingerprints due to inclement weather; however, four sets of headphones that Roberts touched while inside the store were recovered and logged into evidence.
Roberts was picked up and taken into custody on Tuesday. Additional charges are pending.
